MoTIS® with SAP

Not far away from Brüssel are the sheltered workshops of Mariasteen,
set into a splendid scenery. Specializing in services sector
830 humans are being employed there, mostly having physical handicaps.
They realize an annual business volume of 15 Mio.
Euro. Mariasteen is operating in all sorts of manufacturing sectors of wood machining, metal machining and aluminium machining as well as of electrical assembly. The pickings, the packaging, the sorting
or the building of all sorts of materials play a major role.

Quality is the top priority hereby as the handing-over of the
ESF-Quality label at January, 29th, 2011 expresses.
Big flexibility is one of the main excellences of Mariasteen. Just now the articles for the bicyle industry are operated and a moment later electrical appliances, metal products or products for the wood industry are being operated yet. It is clear without saying that these requirements are demanding a sophisticated warehouse managment and process control.

An efficient control and manangement system had to be found, because additionally a fully automatic long items warehouse as well as a pallets warehouse with curved stacker cranes are planned. This system had to interact over standard interfaces with SAP. Considerable backgrounds of the system provider in the fields logistics, controlling stacker cranes or conveyor technique and of course the intergration of SAP were of particular importance.

Between starting the project and the GoLive just four months were planned.
Mariasteen has been decided in favor of the cooperation with the system provider InnoLOG®
located near Aachen, after an intensive research of all sorts of warehouse management systems
and after the question, who is adaptable and flexible enough to meet such a not everyday challenge, and to be affordable nevertheless. The used warehouse management system MoTIS® is an integrated management system for
ll companies sectors which brings decisive competitive advantages. Solid,
object-oriented programming assure operation and investment protection permanently.

Also the modular system concept has convinced Mariasteen,
because the individual requirements can be realized on the basis of established standard modules. The flexibility and adaptability of MoTIS® becomes also apparent that
InnoLOG® can provide the modules
in the favored national language. Also essential was the fact that
MoTIS® has integrated SAP modules in the fields manufacturing and distribution already several times.

In the services sector flexibility is essential. Thus the most difficult job for
InnoLOG® consisted in the multiplicity of the assigned jobs: miscellaneous
customers, different products,
variable processing manners and the profitable handling of customer orders within the required time and the needed quality, even with regard to assure the integration of challenged persons.
Because the special feature of Mariasteen is, that most of the employees have different disabilities.
The project team of Mariasteen and
InnoLOG® has been developed an integrated concept for storing and material flow in close collaboration. MoTIS®
takes over therein the complete management
and the control of all logistic processes at Mariasteen.

The MoTIS® Material Flow Controller controls
on the onehand stacker crane and conveyor technique of the automatic cassette warehouse.
Here steel and aluminium are stored into 7m long cassettes and are made available pin point of production and fully automatic
at the different working machines. The material requests and inventory bookings are tanke place with
the MoTIS®
Radio control System. On the other hand the MoTIS® Material Flow Controller controls a pallet warehouse for Euro pallets and wire mesh boxes
with two curved stacker cranes.

The employees pick the raw and half finished products for the production after the Good-To-Man-Principle oriented by pieces lists. The MoTIS® Radio control System optimize on the other hand the transports to and away from the pallet warehouse.
Upcoming production and shipping orders
receives MoTIS® from the overlaid SAP-System as it were online.
MoTIS® reports changes in any inventory back to SAP with chronological synchronism. The necessary data structures (IDOCs) have been defined while creating the functional description and have been realized correspondingly.

The excellent collaboration between SAP and InnoLOG®cared for the smooth and fast project execution phase during the complete project phase.
In this way the logistic system has been able to be productive after 4 months only.

Since launching MoTIS® especially the discrete parts manufacturing is profiting
by numerous automatic and manual production steps
of deliberate understandable work flows.
Because of the easy handling employees can work flexibly in all kinds of fields. The
employees are pleased because of the transparent work flows
and can effect high performmances.
This is reflected in the sales figures, because even with Mariasteen
it's a question of a commercial enterprise and not of a social services enterprise.
